We all know that I love to shop. Whether I’m shopping for myself or for a client it can be one of the highlights of my day. I want you to feel the same way so I’m going to let you in on some of my best tips for having a great shopping experience.
#1 Be nice to the staff and tell them why you came in
When I walk into a store I say “hi” to whomever is working that day (believe it or not the staff is just as intimidated by you as you are by them). With that simple gesture it tells the staff that I’m in a good mood which encourages them to be polite and give me better service. Once the pleasantries are out of the way I let the sales staff know why I walked in. This can be as simple as saying:
“I’m shopping for an afternoon wedding in Aspen and need a dress”
“I’m looking for a nude shoe with a 3 inch heel to wear with skirts and dresses”
“I live around the corner and this is my first time walking in”
“I’m shopping for a client that needs a few chunky necklaces”
Being honest and direct with sales staff has always lead me to walk out with a full shopping bag. If you only have an hour to get what you need – take my advice and get to the point.
#2 Do a quick walk through of the store’s inventory
Getting a quick tour of the store is a great way for me to understand the layout and be more self sufficient when my associate has to take a call or ring someone else up and I need another size from the floor.
#3 Stay on track
After the quick tour I have a better sense for what the store has to offer and I select a few pieces to try on. By holding myself to a smaller number of options it helps me to zero in on what I’m truly looking for, find it quicker, and even stay on budget! If your significant other is being dragged on this excursion he or she will be pleasantly surprised if you follow this step to a “tee”(sorry for the pun).
I hope these tips give you more confidence when you’re shopping. I can also be contacted via my website anytime you would like to have me as your guide or personal shopper receiving the same personal attention that my clients have relied on over the years.
